As you probably can tell by know, there's not much time in the day for me to draw - still, I try to sneak in sketches here and there. These are ALL from one particular sketchbook, started 2006, where I drew in RSVP pen. I will be adding sketches as I have time, so please check back for more.

The Project for this Pen Sketchbook was: No erasing (hence the pen, though I used some white-out for highlights here and there); No research (this is all purely from my head); and No going back to add to or rework drawings.

Now, before anyone says (and rightly so) that the anatomy's wrong, or they're not researched well, or there are mistakes, or they're messy and unfinished, or asks where my "usual" type and style of artwork has gone - don't worry; these pieces are just weird things from my head, drawn at odd moments (waiting at the train, at lunch, while waiting at the barber's for my husband etc.), and actually give a good idea of what I draw for myself, when I am inspired and not worried about anatomy, or historical accuracy, or mass appeal. There is a lot of of stylization and symbolism here! Click to view full picture.

PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to use an image, please see my Art Usage page first. Thanks!

This is just a green tree spirit / antlered dude; he's not Cernunnos or Herne. I used a wet brush to blend the ink a little. His eyebrows are thanks to a book I was reading where a character had a "permanently surprised expression", and his face - like the other Green Spirit Things in this sketchbook- is rather like my old Eastern Influence faces.
Not a naga (though I love nagas), merely a somewhat-serpentine angry dude.
Somewhat humanoid skull-demon critter.
Yay for Demon Dogs.
One of "my" dragons, drawn with shameless disregard for realistic anatomy or current trends.
Creepy lupine thing, not meant to be a real wolf. See 1993's ghost wolf.
Just an antlered guy, similar to the other green / tree spirits. Playing around with light here.
"Ivy" - bunny. This one I might re-draw and color up.
Weird, impossibly-bendy Oak Tree Guy.
I've been watching travel shows during dinner; in a Christmas Market special they featured some European traditions, which included people dressing up as something called a Krampus. Neat!
Another Krampus. Their appearances can apparently vary widely; some were very humanoid, some skull-faced, and some looked like shaggy beasts.
This is a throwback to a creature I drew as a kid; it's sort of a rhino-horse thing with some other creatures mixed in. For lack of a better name I just called it a "monoceros" - though obviously it's not a unicorn or a rhinoceros.
Second funky monoceros. I enjoyed varying the anatomy with each one.
A third monoceros, slightly more horselike
A VERY loose translation of a Rakshasa. I added a little watercolor quickly and smeared the ink around with a wet brush before finishing.
"Ranna-Synn" - Playing with forms and decorations.
"Relic" - She would probably be more appealing if she was curvier or alternately, more stylized, but I was drawing for myself, and not thinking of what would be popular or sell-able at the time. Her stiff pose, with lack of contrapposto, is inspired in a way by the archaic Greek kouroi figures. The name "Relic" refers to that, and also refers to the object in her hand.
A cat-thing, reaching out with a shifty-humanoid arm and hand.
Yet another version of my Shakti Avatar. She never looks quite the same twice.
A few years ago I saw a statue of a jaguar in an interesting pose and dress; years later, here's an interpretation in more of my style.
Like the sketch to the left, this is an interpretation of something I remembered from years past.
Another Green Spirit antlered creature, done aroud the same time as the other Green Spirit things in this sketchbook. Yes yes, awful anatomy, but fun.
Yet another Green Spirit antlered creature; I don't know why they look like that (I know they're weird) or where they came from, past a longing for Spring.
I usually draw creatures with faces that look more human than animal, but this was a good exercise. It actually started out as more of a mask.
"Willow" (not her name) - originally I wanted to draw a fur-less human body with animal paws, tail, and head, but I ended up somewhere else instead.
I will be adding sketches as I have time, so please check back for more!
